  • FM26 game notes

I am liking FM26, having not played the series properly for years and finding the last one I dipped into too overwhelming this one I have been able to get into with the new look and the new match engine but there are a load (and I mean a really large amount) of issues on the surface that really suggest it is still an early access game and to release at full price has certainly got people up in arms. I don’t know what depth is missing either but the ton of ux and ui bugs suggest that they clearly run out time for fixing but had to release. You can see them battling the fact they have a completely new look, feel, and engine to deal with on top of all the pre existing data, and this has turned out to be a much much bigger task than I suspect anyone realised, but I suspect, they needed to move engines away from their own to something someone else updates, to get all the support for cross platform, 3d and more. I don’t suspect anyone in the SI studios is having nice days at work atm. I am confident they can pull through this but it looks to me like they got 90% of the game done and are now drowning in the fact the final 10% of a game is always as much work as the previous 90.

  • Triggering Memories

Yesterday a student asked me if we have a Lightbox, this hasn’t happened for years, we now have very light and bright what they call A3 light tables. This request reminded me of one summer when my mum (and perhaps Grandad) helped me build a Lightbox for my studies, I felt the cost of a shop bought one wasn’t something I wanted to afford or could really afford, this also reminded me that when I started University my Grandad would send me money each month (into my bank). He was keen on Art and asked me a lot about what I was learning, he painted a little himself but had always worked for Thames Water, no one in our family had gone to University but it felt more like I was the first to be able to truly follow my passion, that of studying Animation, both Mum and Grandad are now gone, Grandad didn’t even get to see me complete my BA, Mum saw me get my PhD, but didn’t make it to the official ceremony itself. It’s funny how things trigger memories.

Tried to get more bees and butterflies to my garden last year, not convinced I did that well but I’ll keep trying to increase bio diversity and safe havens

  • Once again massive shout out to our volunteers and staff. We may have made unnecessary train trips (boat trip for my dad) but we know you did your best. See you next week COYD

Despite the best efforts of our ground staff and volunteers, the ground remains frozen in parts of the south end on the pitch. Two staff members moved growlights on the pitch on the hour, every hour, throughout the entire night

We may have got useless trains but at least we weren’t up all night trying to get the game on

  • I have bad eyes minus 9+ on both and a stigmatism. I have thus as soon as I could wear contact lenses as the Vision is so much better. In the last couple of years I have also needed reading glasses ontop of my contacts which has also been great. However I have just got myself new glasses that have a “digital” lense that are a new approach to varifocal and they are excellent. I am actually enjoying wearing glasses for one of the first times in 30 years… won’t replace my contacts yet but I am impressed
