Finally catching up with full state of Micro.blog but @manton @vincent @jean you need 8 apps so I can have two nice looking rows on my phone 🤣 - turned the ability to reply directly on my blog on another nice feature thanks and the curate reply visibility is spot on icing on the cake very nice
Need to write to apple support. So annoying. Cannot create app specific passwords except for once after a password reset any future returns to add more will prompt for password to create and will always claim incorrect password. Do that too much and you are forced to reset your apple password again!
Well at least I know why sanelater stopped working but I don’t think I have time to reset my Apple password again for the one missing app specific password this morning 🤦♂️which will trigger needing to recreate 4 at least in one sitting. Such a weird bug
Another weird bug the steamdeck gaming mode no longer loads up any public WiFi log in pages have to switch to desktop mode which is no fun and can mess up if your mid game and changing wifis :(
Some of my building fun for Lego serious play activities as part of the faculty two day away day. I know this stuff as approaches to creative thinking but also nice to be on the other side of the coin. It was useful as a mechanism to generally open conversation as much as a thinking approaches.

Rabbit R1 has had tracking info for almost a month… and just been reporting “shipping information received” wonder when it will actually ship to me🐰
I feel privileged to call Victor Burgin a colleague, today he was on campus talking about and showing his most recent work Adaptation with memories of Sheffield and SOLARIS, all made in the Unreal game engine and yes at 80 he makes work in unreal! Digital natives digital migrant nonsense debunked 🥹
Every time we use the term “hallucination,” it is harder to remember that Clippy is a better mental model for existing AI than Skynet is.
It might be too late to withdraw the election of “hallucination” to term du jour in the public discourse, but we may still be able to draw on Mjolsness, Baker, and Kanade’s version of the term to recast AI’s output as the bullshit it truly is.
Calling out the term Hallucination when a machine creates complete nonsense or as reframed here BS - dctr.pro/2pn
Manage our tendency to anthropomorphize
This article in general is an argument against the idea of using science fiction to think critically about AI
Instead, I ask whether science fiction is sometimes not only an inadequate context for such critical thinking, but an especially bad one.
I was mainly drawn to this quote later and issues of retraining based on removal of what a system has ingested in being training, the costs and the issue of applying human traits to machine processes
At the time of writing, there is a lively and important discourse around what rights creators should have in relation to the scraping and use of our works for the training of ML models. This discourse tends to demonstrate that the distinction between training data and model is not widely and deeply understood. For example, to definitively remove one short paragraph from GPT-4 would effectively cost hundreds of millions of dollars, insofar as the model would need to be retrained from scratch on the corrected training data.
Appreciation of how texts are (or are not) represented in LLMs could inform keener appreciation of how the world is (or is not) represented in LLMs, and help us to be aware of and to manage our tendency to anthropomorphize.
In other news what is going on with parsnip shortage at small supermarkets
In further news lying face down on a flat roof drilling a polycarbonate roof onto pergola struts as a stupidly skinny man without a cushion was a bad idea. My ribs hate me now
